About my writing….I finished a rough draft of my book, My Pride is Dust: The Loss of a Son, in late March 2023. My reader, Elizabeth, gave me helpful feedback and suggestions for the next revision. At the end of our session, she suggested I let it go for a while.
I wondered, “Will I ever get this book into the world?” At the same time, I felt relief at letting it go.
“Write some other things,” she told me.
I began another book about my music ministry at the Chicago Temple before I was ordained. In the meantime, my daughter Catherine gave me a subscription to StoryWorth, and I am writing stories about my life with the weekly prompts she has chosen.
I have my Writing Workshop and Rebel Writers every other week. A weekly gathering of writers and a monthly session on Writing Memoir allow me to be with other writers and practice new skills. In the fall of 2023, I began the next revision of my memoir. As the year ended, I started a journey with A Writing Workshop with Anne Lamott et al. All these writing opportunities allow me to learn, practice, and share my writing. Revision is not easy and needs the input of other caring people.
Taking a break from the memoir over Thanksgiving and Christmas will give me time to work on the Storyworth Book, sing in the Holiday Pops with the Nielsen Chorale and the Rockford Symphony Orchestra, and have time to be with family. I am also crafting a few items to sell at the WomanSpace Holiday Market. This will be a gift to a great place that serves our community and a time to volunteer and be with people who help make that happen. I am grateful for a life of writing and creativity that keeps me growing.
